I just arrived in Tucson to attend Ed  Campbell’s violin making workshop. The first thing I did was to visit Evan Smith.

He showed me his new ideas about plate tuning and balancing, followed by bridge tuning and balancing of which I will get into more detail latter. But the real fun was playing his newly tuned guitar and I don’t mean the strings.

Hear are sme pictures of Evan tuning the braces inside the guitars body.

F Holes for a Violin

Posted in Violin Making on March 7, 2010 by goldenviolins

I finally took a day off from repairs and worked on finishing the top plate of my newest violin.I finished the top arch and the inner arch very close to what I would like. Then I started the f holes.I cut the eyes with a hole cutter and began rough cutting the rest with a coping saw blade rapped in a wooden handle.

I’ll finish tomorrow and take some pictures to post.
