Continued Guitar Tuning

Evan is tap tuning a Martin D-28.

When he started this guitar was not enjoyable to play. It had a soft but tinny sound. After cutting down back struts and tuning the top struts the guitar is much impruved and a lot of fun to play.

Posted in Violin Making on April 18, 2010 by goldenviolins

I just arrived in Tucson to attend Ed  Campbell’s violin making workshop. The first thing I did was to visit Evan Smith.

He showed me his new ideas about plate tuning and balancing, followed by bridge tuning and balancing of which I will get into more detail latter. But the real fun was playing his newly tuned guitar and I don’t mean the strings.

Hear are sme pictures of Evan tuning the braces inside the guitars body.
